This week Mrs. Burbach’s and Mr. Grell’s students learned life-saving skills thanks to the Iowa National Guard and a national program called “Stop the Bleed.” This is a bleeding control program designed to increase the survival rate of people who experience life-threatening blood loss. Students learned how to apply tourniquets, pack wounds and other critical information to treat significant injuries.
Students also participated in team-building activities where they learned problem-solving skills and the importance of good communication. Thank you to SGT Lauren Ludwig, SFC Kyle Inman, SPC Brandon Walker, and SSG Jason A. Nemeth for sharing these valuable lessons with our students!

Last weekend, five CDIS students represented Central DeWitt at the Young Musician's Honor Band. Students traveleld to Cedar Rapids Prairie High School to work with students from other Iowa schools and guest conductors, then performed a fantastic concert that afternoon! Congratulations and great job, Sabers!

Saber Speech team members competed at the District Individual Events Contest this past weekend at Northeast where they qualified 17 of their 19 events for the state contest! Earning Division I (excellent) ratings and earning the opportunity to compete at the state event at North Scott on March 11th are:

Congratulations to Jena Edwards on a 2nd place finish at the state individual bowling tournament! Mairead Willimack placed 30th and Kaylie Cargill placed 14th. On the boys side, Rylan Edwards placed 11th. Our individual speech performers did very well this past weekend moving 17 of their 19 events on to the state contest. Congratulations to our CDHS band on a wonderful performance last night! Great job to all of our Sabers! Good luck to our middle school boys basketball players as they wrap up their season this week. Earlier this week, Mrs. Richmann’s extension group had the opportunity to show off the “kindness machines” they built. This project was a hands-on building opportunity that not only taught students electronics and coding, but also about the importance of showing kindness to others. The project was inspired by the book, “The Kindness Machine” by Christina Dankert. Students said they enjoyed this project because they got to use their imaginations, learned not to give up and stay positive, and promote kindness. What a fun way to learn these important lessons!

On Tuesday, 45 local employers shared career opportunities with our juniors and seniors at the Clinton County Fairgrounds. This was a great way for students to learn about careers and network with potential future employers. Thanks to all the businesses who participated!
UPDATE: We will not be rescheduling parent-teacher conferences. Instead, parents will have an opportunity to schedule a time to meet with their child’s teachers in-person or virtually when it works best for them. Parents should hear from teachers by tomorrow afternoon.

CDMS jazz band traveled to Liberty High School last Friday to participate in the Liberty Jazz Festival. Students performed and then received a clinic with two guest clinicians. They did a great job representing Central DeWitt and had a great day of learning! Way to go, Sabers!
